Since the Whitestone Bridge opened to traffic in 1939, nearly 1.7 billion vehicles have crossed the bridge since then--making regular inspection a safety imperative. Structural upkeep and repairs included cable wedging and inspection between bands, removal and replacement of suspender ropes, cable wire and suspender rope testing, removal of tuned mass damper and crossover platform, and painting exposed cable suspender and stay cable surfaces. This project also included miscellaneous steel rehabilitation of towers, painting girders, and floor beams.
As an SSPC QP5-certified company, AEIS performed extensive coating inspections on this project. Our inspection team ensured that the painting contractor and personnel were performing code-compliant work per approved project specifications. AEIS provided critical supervision of installed coatings to ensure the long-term structural integrity and safety of the Whitestone Bridge.
