Impact Testing

Impact Testing

A Charpy impact test measures the amount of energy absorbed by a material, and its resistance to brittle fracture during fracture.

A pendulum arm is used to strike a metallic sample with a weight from a known height. After impact from the weight, the samples are analyzed for energy absorption and ductility characteristics.

Charpy tests may be conducted at ambient or at low temperatures
