In today's economy, gift cards may represent one of the few opportunities consumers have to reward themselves, according to the article Network-Branded Card Purchases to Grow. The piece highlights a recent study of over 8,200 consumers conducted by the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association. "If times are good, people aren't in any hurry to redeem gift cards," said Professor Dan Horne. "In times like now, people don't want resources sitting on the card."
